１９６１年、和歌山県生まれ。父親が音楽家だった影響で幼少時にピアノを始め、高校時代に早くもプロとしての活動を開始。関西を中心に活動した後、１９９４年に拠点を関東に移す。

１９９７年以降リーダー・アルバム１５作、ベストアルバム２作をリリース、うち３作が『スイングジャーナル誌・選定ゴールドディスク』を獲得。スタンダード曲を中心にしたオーソドックスなアルバム作りは常に高い評価を受けている。

１９９９年から自己のグループでアメリカ、ドイツ、ロシア（６回）、キルギス共和国（２回）、カザフスタン共和国（２回）など数々の海外公演を行っており（詳細は別項＜海外公演＞参照）、国内でもアメリカより招いたアーネスティン・アンダーソン（vocal）、ハリー・アレン（tenor sax）、ハワード・アルデン（guitar）、ジョン・クレイトン（bass）、ジェフ・ハミルトン（drums）、グラディ・テイト（vocal, drums）、ウォーレン・ヴァシェ(trumpet, cornet)、バッキー・ピザレリ（guitar）、ジェイムス・ムーディ(sax)、スコット・ハミルトン（tenor sax）、ダイアン・シューア（vocal）、ニューヨーク・ヴォイセズ（chorus）、ケン・ペプロウスキー（clarinet, tenor sax）等とライブやコンサートで共演するなど、常にグローバルに活躍している。

俳優の故・藤岡琢也氏と写真家・浅井慎平氏が隔週でパーソナリティをつとめていたＮＨＫラジオジオ第一放送「ときめきＪＡＺＺ喫茶」（２００４年４月〜２００７年３月放送）ではオープニングとエンディング・テーマの作曲と演奏を担当、準レギュラーとして番組にもたびたび出演した。テーマ２曲が収録されたアルバム『ザ・マジカル・ジャズ・カフェ』を２００４年にリリース。

２００７年、ロン・カーター(bass)出演の「Tully's Coffee」テレビCMに使用された曲「It's the Time」でピアノを担当。同バージョンはロン・カーターのアルバム「It's the Time」にボーナス・トラックとして収録された。

同年、出身地である和歌山県より「平成１９年度・和歌山県文化表彰／文化奨励賞」を授与される。また同県橋本市よりも「平成２６年度・文化奨励賞」を授与される。

最新リーダー作は「岸ミツアキ・トリオ・アンド・ハリー・アレン」。本作は岸にとって初めてCDとLPレコードが同時発売され話題となっている。

＜主な海外公演＞

●１９９９年８月＜アメリカ＞：　米西海岸の名門ジャズフェス「コンコード・ジャズ・フェスティバル」（第３１回）に出演。ローズマリー・クルーニー、カウント・ベイシー・オーケストラ、マンハッタン・トランスファー等と同じステージに立った。

●２００３年１１月＜ロシア＞：　日露友好条約に基づいて外務省の要請によりロシア親善ツアーを行う（４都市６公演）。これは小泉首相とプーチン大統領の「カナナスキス・サミット」での日露首脳会談の折に合意された､ロシア全土で日本の伝統や文化を紹介するというプロジェクトの一貫。日本舞踊・邦楽に続き、多様な日本文化の一面を伝えるという主旨でジャズ・ピアニストの岸ミツアキに白羽の矢が立った。

●２００４年１０月＜ロシア＞：　前年の評判を受けて「ウラジオストク・インターナショナル・ジャズ・フェスティバル」に招聘される。

●２００６年３月＜ロシア＞：　ハバロフスク地方政府より招聘を受け「極東ジャズ・フェスティバル」に出演。３度目のロシア公演。

●２００８年１０月＜ドイツ＞：　デュッセルドルフ日本国総領事館の要請とバックアップにより、ドイツ公演（デュッセルドルフ市近郊で４公演）を行い大好評を博す。

●２０１０年１１月＜ロシア＞：　「ウラジオストク・インターナショナル・ジャズ・フェスティバル」に再度招かれ、近郊のナホトカ市でも初ライブを行った。４度目のロシア公演。

●２０１１年９月＜キルギス＞：　中央アジアのキルギス共和国ビシュケク市で開催された「日本総合紹介週間（日本国大使館主催）」開会式（シンフォニー大ホール）にて演奏。また同ホールでトリオでの単独コンサートを開催。

●２０１１年１０月＜ロシア＞：　ロシア・ウラジオストク市で開催された「国際環境会議」レセプションにメインゲストとして招かれ、フィルハーモニー大ホールでの単独コンサートも開催。５度目のロシア公演となる。

●２０１２年１月＜キルギス＞：　前回の好評を受けて、キルギス共和国（ビシュケク市）再訪が早くも実現。日本とキルギス共和国の国交樹立２０周年記念式典でのソロ演奏、またトリオで「シンフォニー大ホール」にて２度目の単独コンサートも行った。

●２０１２年５月＜カザフスタン＞：　カザフスタン共和国の首都アスタナ市「オペラ＆バレー・シアター」で単独コンサート、また国立芸術大学でのレクチャーなどを行う。現地で開催された日本との外交樹立２０周年を記念するイベントの一環として招かれた。

●２０１４年９月＜カザフスタン＞： 日本たばこ国際会社（JTI）カザフスタンの招きで再訪。最大都市アルマトイ（旧首都）でコンサート、芸術大学でのレクチャー、国営TV放送の人気情報番組での演奏出演などを行う。

●２０１５年６月＜オーストラリア＞： 蓑輪裕之（b）トリオのメンバーとして「ブリスベン国際ジャズフェスティバル」他に出演。

●２０１５年７月＜ロシア＞： ６度目のロシア公演。ウラジオストク市の有名ライブハウス「Cat & Clover」と「フィルハーモニー大ホール」で演奏を行う。

★Mitsuaki KISHI（p） / Biography

Jazz pianist, born in Wakayama prefecture, Japan, in 1961.
He started playing piano as a professional in his high school age. After he played around the Kansai area, he moved to Tokyo in 1994.

He made 15 leader albums and released 2 best albums since 1997. 3 of those recordings won the Selective Gold Disc Award of the Swing Journal, which is the oldest and the most famous jazz magazine in Japan.
His authentic style of jazz always gets the good reputation.

From 1999, he often tours overseas by his own group (see separate entry "Overseas Performances"), and also plays domestically with the great jazz legends from U.S. such as Ernestine Anderson (vocal), Harry Allen (tenor sax), Howard Alden (guitar), John Clayton (bass), Jeff Hamilton (drums), Grady Tate (vocal, drums), Warren Vache (cornet), Bucky Pizzarelli (guitar), James Moody (sax), Scott Hamilton (tenor sax), Diane Schuur (vocal), New York Voices (chorus), and Ken Peplowski (clarinet, tenor sax).

Kishi composed and played the theme music for the NHK weekly jazz program "Tokimeki Jazz Kissa" (broad casted from April 2004 to March 2007) that was hosted by the Japanese legendary actor FUJIOKA Takuya and the photographer ASAI Shimpei and he was often invited to the program as a regular guest.
He recorded the theme music of this program in his album "Magical Jazz Cafe" in 2004.

He played for the TV commercial song of the Tully's Coffee "It's the Time" with the jazz legend Ron Carter (bass). This recording is on the Ron's album "It's the Time" as well.

He won the Cultural Award of 2007 of Wakayama prefecture, and also won the Cultural Award of 2014 of Hashimoto city, Wakayama prefecture.

His latest album "Kishi Mitsuaki Trio and Harry Allen"(2017) was released in both CD and LP record. It was the first time for him to release his album in LP record, and it became a hot topic.

Overseas Performances

In August 1999 (U.S.A.): The 31st Concord Jazz Festival. Mitsuaki Kishi group stood on the same stage of great jazz legends such as Rosemary Clooney, Count Basie Orchestra, and Manhattan Transfer.

In November 2003 (Russia): Russian tour as the ambassador of the International cultural exchange foundation of the Japanese government. Kishi trio played 6 shows in 4 cities. (This project was the part of the Kananaskis Summit agreement between the ex-prime minister Mr. Koizumi and President Putin, that aimed to introduce the Japanese arts and culture in Russia.)
Besides showing the Japanese traditional art format, he was selected as a key person for this project in order to introduce the multicultural aspect of Japan.

In October 2004 (Russia): Vladivostok International Jazz Festival, Russia. As the result of the successful tour of the previous year, Kishi was invited to Vladivostok city again.

In March 2006 (Russia): Far East Jazz Festival in Khabarovsk, Russia. It was the invitation by the government of Khabarovsk.

In October 2008 (Germany): Tour in Germany (4 shows around Dusseldorf city). It was the offer by the Consulate General of Japan in Dusseldorf to introduce the high-level multicultural aspect of Japan and to cultivate cultural exchanges.

In November 2010 (Russia): The 7th Vladivostok International Jazz Festival. The festival had been receiving the strong requests by many of Kishi's fans there, and it was the fourth time for Kishi to play in Russia.

In September 2011 (Kyrgyztan): Concerts in Bishkek city, Kyrgyz Republic. Embassy of Japan in the Kyrgyz Republic offered Kishi to play at the ceremony of Japan Week hosted by the embassy. Kishi trio also had a concert at the Symphony Hall.

In October 2011 (Russia): Concerts in Vladivostok, Russia. Kishi Trio was invited to play at the reception of the international conferences on the environment, and also had a concert at the Philharmonic Hall. It was the 5th time for Kishi to play in Russia.

In January 2012 (Kyrgyztan): Kishi was invited to Kyrgyz Republic again to play at the ceremony for the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Kyrgyz Republic. He had a concert again at the Symphony Hall by his trio.

In May 2012 (Kazakhstan): Kishi was invited to Republic of Kazakhstan for the anniversary events in Astana city to celebrate 20 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Republic of Kazakhstan. He had a concert at the Opera and Ballet Theatre and gave a lecture at the national university of arts. .

In September 2014 (Kazakhstan): Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Kazakhstan invited Kishi to perform in Almaty which is the biggest and the former capital city in Kazakhstan. He had a concert at the famous music hall and the open lecture at the national university of arts and music. Also he appeared and played on the popular TV program at the state channel.

In June 2015 (Australia): Performances at the Brisbane International Jazz Festival as the member of Hiro MINOWA (bass) Trio.

In July 2015 (Russia): Performances in Vladivostok at the famous jazz club "Cat & Clover" and the Philharmonic Hall. It was the 6th time for Kishi to play in Russia.
